Sachsenhausen

Oranienburg, Germany

This was the first concentration camp of Nazi Germany on Prussian soil. Today it is a memorial site, very active in keeping the memory alive. More information: www.sachsenhausen-sbg.de/en/
I visited on a Saturday evening. After parking, a man with the appearance of a skinhead walked toward me. He smiled and asked: “Are you the locksmith?”
It turned out someone had broken a key in a lock, and he was waiting for a repair. He was very generous and allowed me to take some photographs that would otherwise not have been possible.
