The sheer size of this slag heap is amazing. It is 250m high, 1100m long and 700m wide and contains 150 million tons of salt. And this is only what you see. The mine which is feeding this man-made mountain covers an area of 312 km².
As you can imagine such a massive venture is not without consequences for the environment. With every rainfall salt will be washed out and a lot of work has to go into protecting the land and the water around it from salt contamination.
